Manhattan with Averna in place of sweet vermouth — bittersweet and darker

A Manhattan with Averna in place of sweet vermouth — bittersweet, darker, deeper.

Ingredients

2 oz Rye Whiskey
1 oz Amaro Averna
1 dash Angostura Bitters
1 dash Orange Bitters

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice.
Stir for 20–30 seconds until well chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
Garnish with a brandied cherry.

Tips

A 2:1 rye-to-amaro ratio keeps the whiskey present.
A high-rye whiskey balances Averna's caramel-and-bitter sweetness.
