Gimlet
Origin
1922
Origin contested. The popular naval-surgeon-Gimlette story is unsupported (he was 19 when Rose's Lime was first issued to the Royal Navy). The drink owes its existence to Lauchlan Rose's 1867 patented lime cordial; the first printed gimlet recipe appears in MacElhone's Harry's ABC of Mixing Cocktails (1922), as equal parts gin and Rose's.
